Most of the members of the Chandela dynasty that ruled a sizable part of eastern Central India for a considerably long time during 9th - 11th Centuries were great connoisseurs of fine art, especially the sculptural art. They maintained and nourished generations of thousands of master sculptors, not only from their own empire but from other similar empires as well. They imbibed their kindred spirits with the best wine of art that inculcated into them a kind of addiction to depict contemporary social behavior with great regard for the ‘Kama’ as well, one of the FOUR cherished achievements (ends) of a successful human being (right since the Vedic times) : ‘The Dharma’(The Religion), ‘The Artha’(The Finance),‘The Kama’ (The Love / Desire of reproduction & Sensual Enjoyments) and ‘The Moksha’(The Eternal Salvation). The Khajuraho temples are distinct in displaying such an exuberance of sculptural art, that excels qualitatively (and quantitatively also) by occupying a much higher place among many other such monuments of this kind of fine-art in India (or even elsewhere). The sculptural display of human eroticism is one of the principal features of the Khajuraho temple-sculpts, though many other contemporary Indian temples in some other regions of India have used the presence of erotic sculptures as a source of attraction for the common masses (as well as the enlightened tourists) that visited those places. However it must be kept into the mind by an enlightened visitor that these erotic sculptures, in comparison, are rather much fewer than the others, and are used, mostly, for Structural embellishment only, as such depictions were not at all considered inauspicious during those days; yet it can not be denied that many, the so called pious souls, shockingly dislike the presence of eroticism in (or around in the vicinity) a sacred place of worship. POEMS THAT ADORE LIFE ! I. verdurous life! I'm sure something shall crop-up fast: - And, this mile-stone shall not be the last! We'll move, and move, and move farther: Such that, our flags shall fly over-mast!! - Yes, now, calls us: the verdurous life! - Yes, now call us: the senses rife! Let's move, and move, and move farther!! What's bad? What's good? It's mental strife! All things are beautiful, sans shapes: Might they be here, or 'round the capes? If we have eyes: to see them through! Hidden are their virtues: like our napes! Let's rise with the sun! Let's walk full-moon! Let days and nights nourish us well! It's Eden: that's manifesting here; For a dwelling place perfect; let's dwell! Let bosoms, in frost-winds, get warmth: And let them, in scorching heat, cool! Let our chests swell, midst pressures sweet! Let lips caress lips; and wool, caress wool!
II. Beyond all measures! Why, some one: Love so much, Some one; That his or her absence, Should cause, So much of pain, - That, this very environment, Around us all, Gets saddened, All at-once; Beyond all measures! - That, buds refused to flower-forth, And, fruits to ripe, For nurturing in-womb seeds, For all succeeding crops, To come for multiplying by themselves; For future merriments, And beauty-cultures! ••••• Even one's eyes can eat! She comes, And, brings with her, Some thing so sweet, And delicate; That Even one's eyes can eat! Her flowering smiles: Her glances innocent: And, Child-like postures, Can't, any more, be missed! It appears, Yes certainly, I'm quite sure; That, Her soft dawn-red lips, Are by none else, But by her parents kissed! ••••• None other than you! I am: Some one, None other than you! I love you! And, None other than you!! - Then, what, This stare of your eyes, Says? - And, Why, it's that, Your order stays, All future courses, Of our move: Whatever it is? - And, it tends to be eternal, Never lifted! ••••• Lend Me, thy hand! Lend me, thy hand! And, let's now live!! We have been lonely, despaired ones, For ages now; seeking some one! Moving from: this place, to that place: But all in vain; we could find none! We came across: long days-and-nights! We came across: great multitudes! We turned to East: to West, to Gods; But failed to break our solitudes! Our lights faded: past dunes of sand: And, every moment was plaintive! Lend me, thy hand! And, let's now live!! Things seem to have changed now, since then; As eyeing eyes, have met their pairs! All red flowers, with all their blooms, Are prompting us: 'Shed all despairs'! Are we now not, that close enough? - That we may enrapture entwined! Don't we now know, to the cores, ourselves? - That, we have nothing more to find! Let's share: our hopes! Let souls befriend! Let's learn: to take: Let's learn: to give!! Lend me, thy hand! And, let's now live!! •••••
Some are just such! Some are just such: Who behold alright; But then, can't see! And, some are those: Who, though hear well? But then, can't listen! Yet, some are such: For whom, The Wisdom: opens-up itself; By its, own longing! And sweet will!! - And, opens-up en-tout! - Similarly, As a young, Just newly wed, And lovely, Beautiful wife: - A virgin pious - Opens her self en-tout, To her pan-celibate husband, (Who perceives her all curiously); With all her charms, - And vital sensualities, - And pleasures, all inclusive! •••••
